“Jacksonville” by Cal Smith | Presented by DJ Dots

Yo yo yo yo yo yo yo, wzzzzzzup, yall.

Today’s Duval-drenched song of the day is brought to you by one of my favorite vinyl-only Jacksonville DJs – DJ Dots – AKA Julie Hildreth.

THE SONG
Jacksonville by Cal Smith is probably the best Jacksonville song I’ve ever heard. Not that I’ve heard a lot and not that I even feel like trying to think of other Jacksonville songs right now.

What’s not to love about this 2-minute gem? 1) The single-tracked exquisitely mixed and reverbed vocals.  2) Fuck Detroit. 3) The steel guitar, twangy electric guitar doubled hook riff. 4) The dude’s buttery, no-nonsense, no-room-for-bullshit voice and lyrical content. What a great song.

Thanks for the S.O.T.D. Julie!
